A Word to the Wise...
While academics are always a priority in the classroom, learning skills are directly correlated to students' success in their classes. Constant encouragement and reminders at school and at home will help students realize the importance of these learning skills and the significant role they play in everyday life.
Students are required to take the initiative in asking questions, record homework assignments, get homework and notes they miss when absent, stay inside to make up for unfinished work, complete assignments and correct it when it is taken up in class, take notes while in class, and review those notes regularly. I explain to students that they need to “treat school like a job”, or at the very least “like job training” to encourage them to start developing excellent work habits and completing homework and assignments by due dates. If there is some reason that work cannot be completed, I ask for a note from parents – mainly so we are on the same page, and I know parents are aware of the incomplete work as well.
We are a Tribes school at Martin Street and the Tribes Agreements are in place and well used in my class. The agreements are as follows:

Grade 5 and 6 are exciting years and I hope that we can enjoy learning together in my class. In order to do that, I encourage students (and parents) to work with me - getting their work done, being respectful and helping out in the classroom when they can...if we all work together, it'll be amazing the things we can accomplish!!
